What it is not: A chat panel, not an autocomplete. There is no inline completion and no editor-side diff review beyond the inline diffs the panel draws - if tab-completion is what you are looking for, this is not that.

Installing it

  • Search for VibeFree in the VS Code Extensions Marketplace, or install vibefree.vibefree-vscode directly.
  • Run the VibeFree command from the editor title bar or the Command Palette to open the chat panel.
  • Sign in when prompted. There is no API key to paste and no card to add.
  • Optional: point it at your existing MCP servers with a config at ~/.vibefree/mcp_config.json, or set vibefree.mcpConfigPath to wherever yours already lives.

It needs VS Code 1.74.0 or later, and runs anywhere VS Code does - Windows, macOS and Linux.

What it asks you before it acts

The agent can reach beyond the file you are looking at, so the things that reach furthest are gated on your answer rather than run quietly. It shows you the exact command line before running a shell command, names the exact path before touching a file outside your open workspace, and names the host before fetching a URL it has not asked about. A denial is final for that request - it will not route around a "no" with a different tool. Everything it reads back from a tool is treated as data, not as instructions.
