A free OpenAI Codex alternative for VS Code

Moving from Codex
Both have a VS Code extension, so the in-editor half is a swap. The half that does not come across is delegation: Codex can be handed a task to run remotely against a checkout of your repository and hand back a branch, and VibeFree has no equivalent - it works on your machine, in the window you are looking at, while you watch.
What VibeFree does not do
- No cloud task delegation. Nothing runs in a remote sandbox, so nothing runs while your editor is closed.
- No GitHub integration - it does not open pull requests, read issues, or review a PR for you.
- No CLI, and no choice of model beyond the two in the picker.
- Ads. A short sponsored card appears in the chat panel, in place of the ChatGPT subscription.
How Codex is priced: Codex is not sold on its own - you get it by subscribing to ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) or a higher tier, or by paying per token through the OpenAI API. The $20/month figure in the table below is the cost of the cheapest ChatGPT plan that includes it, not a Codex-only price.

Most of them also have a free tier, and the column says so - what it does not give is the current cap, because vendors retune those far more often than they change a price.
